PREPARING FOR YOUR MISSION TRIP:

Practice for Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone
Here at PVM, we encourage you to step outside of the life and experiences you are used to.  Here are some ideas to get you a head start on this experience.

Great Fundraising Tips
PVM tries to make it as easy as possible to come to Costa Rica for a missions trip, but we know that it's not as easy as writing out a check.  Here are some great tips to help you raise the funs you need so that nothing hinders you.

Fundraising Ideas
Here are some specific activity ideas you can do with your youth group to fundraise for your trip.

Getting a U.S. Passport
You do need a Passport to come to Costa Rica or Nicaragua.  If you don't have one yet, PVM recommends that you start applying for one roughly 6 months before your trip.

Getting a U.S. Passport in a Hurry
If you've waited until the last minute to get your passport, you may have to pay additional fees, but you can still get it in time.

Getting a Canadian Passport

If you live in Canada, you also need a Passport to come to Costa Rica or Nicaragua.  In Canada it is recommended to apply for one at least 4 months ahead of your trip.

Health Info for Traveling to Costa Rica
At PVM, we understand that you and many parents are concerned about your health when coming to Costa Rica.  At PVM we require you to have your Tetanus and regular shots up-to-date.  You can go to the Center for Disease Control website to find other recommendations for shots, however, they are not required.  Some people worry about malaria, but there is not real threat. Malaria pills are not required, and most participants doe not take them.  No one has contracted Malaria while visiting Costa Rica with PVM.  Stomach issues, such as diarrhea, can occur due to the change in diet, but are not the norm.  Water is safe in nearly all of Costa Rica,  and PVM will always ensure there is safe water available for participants.
