In January 2003, after serving as youth pastors for five years, missionaries DeLynn and Gloria Hoover, followed a life-long call to missions on their lives and moved their family to Costa Rica. DeLynn came from a background of missions and discipleship training programs and Gloria grew up as a missionary kid in Nicaragua, Belize, Ecuador and Costa Rica. Both had a great amount of experience in Latin America and spoke the Spanish language fluently. They came to the beautiful country of Costa Rica with a call on their lives to fulfill the Great Commission and do discipleship. During their time as youth pastors they realized the impact in discipleship that a short term mission trip could have on youth and adults if the appropriate emphasis was placed on the discipleship aspect. They are passionate about seeing life-long change brought through short term missions. For that reason PVM’s slogan is “short term missions with life-long impact!”

Therefore in July 2003 PVM (Pura Vida Missions) was started. The first summer PVM hosted 35 youth. It has grown each year and is currently hosting 400+ youth over the summer months of June- August. PVM also hosts over 100 persons (not necessarily youth) outside of the summer months.

PVM is just one of the ways that the Hoover’s have sought to live out their call. PVM is a program of VidaNet which is a network of programs aimed at discipleship and missions. PVM and another VidaNet program, DaVida, work together supporting a network of approximately 30 different churches and ministries. We seek to come alongside these ministries and see the kingdom of God expanded through them. Over the last six years PVM has hosted over 1500 persons in short term mission trips.

PVM works alongside several denominations in Costa Rica and other countries. We seek to facilitate the work of the local church.
